Solo Automotive Inc
Electric Vehicle (EV) and Sustainable Transportation Industry
Solo Automotive Inc. is a Canadian company based in Vancouver that produces sustainable electric vehicles designed for solo city commuting. Its core innovation, the SOLO EV, is a compact, three-wheeled electric vehicle built specifically for one driver. Solo’s approach is to ease urban congestion and cut emissions by offering a smaller, efficient vehicle that aligns with everyday commuting needs. The company is also expanding into North American and European markets.
Origin and Mission
Solo Automotive Inc. started operations to serve individuals seeking a reliable and clean urban transportation solution. With around 50 employees and operations centered in Vancouver, the company maintains Canadian values while reaching international markets. Solo has attracted investor attention by aligning its strategy with long-term sustainability in transportation.
Product Tailored to Real-World Use
The SOLO EV, the company’s signature vehicle, is a fully electric, three-wheeled model with a single seat, created specifically for crowded city roads. Data shows that about 80% of daily trips involve drivers traveling alone. Rather than modifying larger vehicles, Solo Automotive Inc. chose to create an entirely new format.
With an average commute distance of 40 miles round-trip, the SOLO EV delivers enough range on a single charge. It includes features designed for convenience, such as air conditioning, Bluetooth audio with USB compatibility, an LCD digital instrument cluster, power mirrors and windows, remote keyless entry, a backup camera, and heated seats.
Cargo space is five cubic feet, suitable for day-to-day items like shopping bags or briefcases. At 122 inches long, 61.4 inches wide, and weighing 1,735 pounds, the vehicle is sized to move easily through tight urban spaces without adding to traffic.
Performance in Urban Settings
The SOLO EV can reach speeds of up to 80 miles per hour. A 56-horsepower liquid-cooled synchronous motor powers its rear-wheel drive. The vehicle offers 103 foot-pounds of torque, ensuring a responsive driving experience in city and suburban conditions.
A 144-volt, 17.4-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion NCA battery with liquid cooling powers the vehicle. With a 220-volt Level 2 charger, the battery reaches 85% in roughly 2.5 hours and 100% in 6 hours. A standard 120-volt outlet takes 12.5 hours for an 85% charge and 15 hours for a full charge.
Prioritizing Safety
Safety is built into every part of the SOLO EV. It features LED headlights, daytime running lights, power disc brakes, and a collapsible steering column. For additional protection, it includes triple-reinforced steel side-impact zones, crumple zones at both the front and rear, a high-strength steel halo roll bar, and torque-limiting stability control.
The composite monocoque chassis supports durability while keeping the structure lightweight. This balance ensures a safer and more efficient commute for drivers who travel alone.
Values That Drive the Company
Solo Automotive Inc. operates with three central values: innovation, sustainability, and urban freedom. The SOLO EV produces zero emissions. A typical gas-powered commuter vehicle emits over 5,500 pounds of CO₂ each year—an amount that the SOLO EV avoids entirely.
Keeping ownership costs low is part of the company’s vision. SOLO EVs have fewer maintenance requirements, rely on electricity instead of gasoline, and may qualify for lower insurance premiums because of their size and configuration.
The SOLO EV also promotes urban freedom. Its compact design makes maneuvering in traffic easier, reduces the burden of parking, and supports a better fit for real city lifestyles.
Achievements and Future Growth
Solo Automotive Inc. has made key progress since its founding. It was among the early electric vehicle manufacturers to attract investor support and introduced the SOLO EV as the world’s first electric vehicle developed from the ground up for solo drivers.
The vehicle has been featured in prominent global outlets, including CNN, Bloomberg, Forbes, and MotorTrend, earning attention for its structure, utility, and environmental impact.
Sales have reached both Canadian and U.S. markets, and pilot programs in Europe have helped introduce the SOLO EV to new users. These efforts have also generated insights that will support future product improvements.
In 2025, the company simplified the reservation process. Buyers can place a fully refundable deposit of $200 to reserve a SOLO EV. After the deposit, the sales and delivery team assists customers through the purchasing and delivery process.
